Question by B V: Does anybody know about the HRSA Nursing scholarship?
I wanted to know how long it takes HRSA to notify you that you either have or don’t have the scholarship.
They did a credit check on me, the beginning of July, and I’m guessing the paperwork I sent to them in by the deadline, May 14th, must have checked out b/c they actually did the credit check. They give you a time frame of July-October as a notification timeline. So anyone know what I’m talking about or have any experience? Like how long from the time they do they credit check do they send out a notification? Anybody know the process/steps they take to approve/deny the scholarships? (other than the basic eligibility requirements like financial eligibilty and having all forms correct and no federal liens)
Also the payments, there’s the tuition and fee’s, then other reasonable costs, and then the monthly stipend. Are all these payments seperate, or all the all included as one in the $ 1,269 monthly stipend for 2009-2010?
Thanks ![]()
Please don’t respond telling me you don’t know, or to contact them or my school. I didn’t post my question online just to raise your answer score!
If I could have gotten my answer that way I wouldn’t be turning to strangers online.
Thank you to all of the legitimate remarks/answers.

The Nursing Scholarship Program pays tuition, fees, other education costs and provides a monthly living stipend to individuals enrolled in accredited registered nurse training programs who apply to and are selected to participate in the program. Upon graduation, recipients are obligated to serve at least two years at a health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses, such as a hospital or community health center.
Applicants selected to receive the scholarship are notified as early as July and no later than September 30 of the year in which they apply.
The Nursing Scholarship Program pays tuition and fees directly to the nursing school where the scholarship recipient is enrolled.
Financial support is also provided to each recipient to cover reasonable educational costs, such as books, clinical supplies, uniforms, etc. This payment is calculated for the year and is made along with the first monthly stipend payment ($ 1,269 before Federal taxes during academic year 2009-2010).
The school year is defined as July 1 through the following June 30. The first monthly stipend payment is made in October and should be received by November 7.
You will find more information on scholarship benefits at http://bhpr.hrsa.gov/nursing/scholarship/applicantbulletin/benefits.htm
First preference for funding is given to qualified applicants who have a zero expected family contribution (EFC) on the FAFSA and are enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited undergraduate nursing program as full-time students.
If there are insufficient funds to award scholarships to all qualified applicants in the first funding preference, applicants in the first funding preference group are selected randomly until all funds are expended.
Last year, 574 applicants received first preference for funding and of those, 172 received scholarship awards.
